Dedication

closeup of a strand of DNAIn Alfaro v. Department of Corrections all 13 women on death row courageously brought a suit to resist having their DNA collected for the state's DNA bank. California appellate court ruled against the women in May claiming that prisoners on death row do not have this right to privacy and must provide DNA samples.

We want to honor all efforts prisoners undertake in solidarity with one another, standing up for each other.

In the days when the highest law agencies are ridden with scandals of incompetence and malfeasance and yet keep getting more and more unchecked powers, we dedicate this issue of The Fire Inside to the women on death row who together tried to limit those powers.
