Dedication

two intersecting female symbolsNowhere is it more clear than in prisons how unacceptable any deviation from the dominant sexuality is. The system as a whole is based on repressing any form of positive sexuality. The media portrays women prisoners either as sexual predators or as innocent feminine victims. But in CCWP, we have met many women who tell us of the love and support they have received from each other, as friends and sisters, and as lovers and partners. We dedicate this summer issue of The Fire Inside to all of our sisters inside whose very lives challenge the notion that sexuality can be locked into cages. We are so glad that we have had the opportunity to meet you and work with you. We honor your spirit, your love, your tenderness and your determination in the face of such overwhelming repression.
