Dedication

Theresa Martinez, Judi Ricci, and Beverly Henry testifying at hearings. Theresa Martinez, Judi Ricci, and
Beverly Henry testifying at hearings
It takes tremendous bravery to go up against someone who has the power of life and death over you. In October, we saw 20 courageous women prisoners, who have virtually no power but the power of truth, testify against their jailers, their medical providers, even their chaplain, in a public forum. Another 22 sent in written statements. For your courage, intelligence and grace under pressure, we dedicate this issue of Fire Inside to all the women prisoners who participated in the historic Legislative Hearings on the Conditions of Confinement for California Women Prisoners, Valley State Prison for Women and California Institution for Women, October 11 and 12, 2000.
