Dedication to Marilyn Buck

Marilyn BuckFor 18 years political prisoner Marilyn Buck has
used words in all forms - poetry, essays, plays,
letters and articles - to break through the
silence of the prison walls. Winner of the first
prize for poetry in the 2001 PEN prison writing
awards, Marilyn's writings are a testament to the
power of words:

words holler
scream love songs
chant
refuse to conform
indict cruelty
resist dying

For resisting the prison's efforts to hold her
and other prisoners permanently incommunicado, we
dedicate this issue of the Fire Inside to Marilyn.
