Parole Beat

Precious Releases…

Esperanza Alvarez was released from CIW in November after serving twenty-five years on a fifteen-to-life sentence. Espie was the chair of the Mexican American Resource Association for 17 years. Espie paroled to Crossroads and will be reunited with her 92 year old father who stood by her all these years.

...And Outrageous Denials

Mary Shields was not found suitable for release by the Parole Board on October 3rd even though she had been found suitable in May 2006. It is particularly frustrating for people to be rejected for parole when they have been granted parole in the past, and it exposes the arbitrary nature of this process! We send Mary our strength and full support as she figures out what legal steps to take next to win her overdue release.
